Day-by-day itinerary
Your flight lands at Kochi International Airport. Your private driver meets you at arrivals and takes you to your heritage hotel in Fort Kochi — one of the oldest European settlements in India, on a peninsula where Arabian, Chinese, Dutch, Portuguese, and British influences have been layering for five centuries. The afternoon is free: the Chinese fishing nets at the waterfront, the Jewish Synagogue, the narrow streets of the old quarter. A quiet, easy first evening on the spice coast.
Morning heritage walk with your expert local guide: the Dutch Palace at Mattancherry (extraordinary Kerala murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana), Jew Town's antique shops and the Paradesi Synagogue, Kochi's spice warehouse district where cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon have been traded since the 14th century. The Chinese fishing nets at the fort tip in the late afternoon — the best photographs are in the golden hour. Optional Kathakali performance in the evening: the ancient classical dance-drama of Kerala.
The three-hour drive from sea level up to Munnar at 1,600 metres is one of Kerala's most dramatic transitions. The road winds through rubber plantations, cardamom estates, waterfalls, and then — suddenly — the rolling green geometry of the tea gardens. Your resort sits in the hills. The air is cool. The light is different. Afternoon at leisure: walk the estate paths, take tea on the veranda, let the altitude do its work. Dinner at the resort.
Morning visit to a working tea estate: the plucking, the withering room, the rolling machines, the fermentation troughs, and the final sorting. The production of Indian tea explained from leaf to cup. Eravikulam National Park in the late morning: the preserve of the Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goat) and one of Kerala's highest protected areas, with views across the Western Ghats. Afternoon at leisure. Optional trekking or cycling through the tea gardens.
The three-hour drive from Munnar to Thekkady winds through the Cardamom Hills — air thick with spice, villages small and quiet. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary surrounds an artificial lake created in 1895; the water draws elephant, gaur, sambar, and occasionally tiger. Check in to your forest resort. Late afternoon: a spice garden visit — black pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, turmeric, and cardamom growing together in the forest, explained with depth.
The early morning boat safari on Periyar Lake is the sanctuary's finest experience: silence on the water, mist rising from the surface, elephants at the bank. Your naturalist guide reads the behaviour and tracks movement across the far shore. Late morning: a guided nature walk through the buffer zone. Afternoon at leisure in the forest. Optional bamboo rafting or tribal heritage walk if arranged. The forest has its own rhythm — your day takes its cue from it.
Road from Thekkady north toward Kumarakom — the landscape descending from the Ghats into the flat, water-laced terrain of the Kerala backwater country. The coconut palms thicken. The roads narrow alongside canals. Your heritage or lake resort sits on the edge of Vembanad Lake — the largest lake in Kerala. Ayurvedic consultation this afternoon: your treatment programme for the journey ahead is designed around your constitution, your needs, and your time.
A morning of dedicated Ayurvedic treatment — your programme designed the previous day. Abhyanga oil massage, Shirodhara (warm oil stream on the forehead), or Kizhi (herbal bundle treatment) depending on your prescription. Lunch at the resort. Afternoon: a local guide takes you through a backwater village on foot — rice paddies, toddy palm tappers, women weaving coir, children back from school. The canal boats, the birds, the afternoon light. A genuinely different Kerala from the resort view.
A short boat or road journey from Kumarakom to Alleppey brings you to your private kettuvallam houseboat. These are hand-built rice barges — traditionally used to transport rice along the backwaters — converted into floating residences with private bedrooms, a sit-out deck, a cook on board, and a captain who knows these canals intimately. The boat moves slowly through the network of waterways. Village life unfolds on the banks. Lunch is served on deck. Dinner under the stars on still water.
The houseboat returns to Alleppey jetty in the morning. Breakfast on the water. Your private vehicle meets you at the jetty and transfers you to Kochi Airport for your onward flight. Or, for guests with an afternoon flight, a final morning at leisure on the boat or in a Kochi café by the waterfront. A quiet, warm, unhurried departure — because everything about this journey was designed to be exactly that.

Kerala Requires Time — We Give It
Kerala is India's most restorative destination and the most damaged by the hurried itinerary. Globalduniya's Kerala journey is deliberately unhurried — two nights minimum at each destination, no 6am checkouts, Ayurvedic treatments scheduled around rest rather than squeezed into gaps.
Private Houseboat — Not the Shared Flotilla
The standard Kerala houseboat experience is a moored boat on a crowded canal. Ours is a private premium kettuvallam on Vembanad Lake or the Alleppey backwaters — properly isolated, with a cook and crew who understand slow travel and privacy.
Ayurveda — Authentic, Not Spa-Branded
We work with Ayurvedic centres that operate under qualified physicians, not hotel spa menus. A genuine Ayurvedic consultation precedes every treatment recommendation, and the programme is designed around your health goals rather than a fixed package. Available at Periyar, Kumarakom and Munnar.
Fort Kochi — The Hidden Cultural Layer
Most Kerala itineraries skip Fort Kochi or include it as a half-day. We give it two mornings — the Chinese fishing nets at dawn, the Dutch Palace, the Jewish Quarter, St. Francis Church. Fort Kochi is one of India's most layered heritage towns. We make sure our guests experience it that way.
