How to Reach Kashmir from Delhi

The fastest and most practical option is a flight. Delhi (DEL) to Srinagar (SXR) takes 1 hour 25 minutes. IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet operate multiple daily flights. Return fares range from ₹3,500 in the off-season to ₹12,000+ during peak summer. Book at least 6–8 weeks ahead for peak season to lock in good fares.

By road, the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH44) is scenic but takes 8–10 hours and is occasionally disrupted by weather or road conditions. It is ideal if you want to experience the mountain drive, but flying is recommended for most travellers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kashmir safe to visit in 2026?

Yes. Kashmir has seen a strong tourism revival and welcomed over 2 crore tourists in 2024. The valley — Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg — is generally safe. Always check current advisories before travel and register with local police if trekking in remote areas.

How many days are enough for a Kashmir trip?

A minimum of 5 nights / 6 days is recommended to cover Srinagar (2N houseboat + hotel), Gulmarg (1N), and Pahalgam (1N) comfortably. 7 nights lets you add Sonamarg or do more relaxed sightseeing.

What is the cheapest month to visit Kashmir?

January and February are the cheapest months (off-season for leisure tourists). Package prices drop significantly, but you'll need to be prepared for heavy snowfall. November is the sweet spot — affordable prices, golden foliage, and clear weather.

Can I visit Gulmarg from Srinagar as a day trip?

Yes. Gulmarg is 51 km from Srinagar (about 1.5 hours by road) and is easily done as a day trip. But if you want to ski or spend early morning in the snow before the gondola crowds arrive, staying a night in Gulmarg is worth it.

What should I not miss on a first-time Kashmir trip?

A sunrise shikara ride on Dal Lake, the Gulmarg Gondola (Phase 2 takes you to 3,980m), and a traditional wazwan meal. If visiting in spring, the Tulip Garden in Srinagar (March–April) is one of Asia's largest and absolutely stunning.
