India with children — what you need to know first
What is a good 10–14 day India itinerary with children?
For most families, the Golden Triangle — Delhi (2 nights), Agra (2 nights), Jaipur (2–3 nights) — is the strongest foundation: manageable transfers, iconic monuments, and excellent private hotel options. For 12–14 nights, add Ranthambore wildlife (2 nights) after Agra or Udaipur's lake palaces after Jaipur. Rajasthan's camels, forts, and folk culture are very engaging for children of most ages.
What is the private transport advantage for families?
Your own air-conditioned vehicle and driver are available throughout the journey — departing when your family is ready, stopping when children need to, and resting when they are tired. You are never on a group schedule. For families with young children or those managing jet lag, this flexibility matters significantly.
What pacing is recommended for children under 12?
We recommend no more than two destination changes per week for children under 12, longer rest periods at each location, and avoiding more than 3 hours by road in a single transfer. Most of our family itineraries are structured around this principle — shorter travel days, more time to explore each city properly, and afternoons kept free where possible.
How does India differ for school-age children versus teenagers?
Younger children (6–11) respond well to the sensory richness of India — forts, elephant encounters, camel rides, colourful markets, and hands-on craft experiences. Teenagers often engage more deeply with historical context, photography, food, and cultural complexity. Our guides adjust their approach and depth of explanation based on your children's ages and interests.
Is India suitable for multi-generational family groups?
Yes — multi-generational family travel is one of our most common family programmes. We build itineraries where grandparents, parents, and children travel together, balancing elder-friendly pacing (later morning starts, accessible vehicles, shorter walking distances) with age-appropriate activities for children. The Golden Triangle and Rajasthan both suit this well.
What about safety, food, and health considerations for children?
We use reputable, IATA-accredited accommodation and vetted restaurants throughout. Private vehicles are maintained and air-conditioned. For food, most hotels and restaurants can accommodate children's dietary preferences without difficulty. We recommend consulting your doctor about routine travel health measures before visiting India with young children.
