What makes the difference in India is the guide — specifically, a naturalist who understands tiger territory, reads pugmarks and scratch posts, and knows which zone to request from the forest department on any given morning. We use experienced safari naturalists who work exclusively in the reserves they guide, rather than generalists who rotate between wildlife and city programmes.
Every safari jeep in our programme is privately booked — a 6-seat open-top Maruti Gypsy or Canter allocated exclusively to your group. Ranthambore — Rajasthan
India's most photographed tiger reserve — UNESCO fort ruins inside the jungle give it a cinematic quality unlike anywhere else. Tigers are frequently active near the three lakes at Rajbagh, Padam Talao and Malik Talao. 75+ resident tigers. Excellent rail connections from Delhi and Jaipur.
Bandhavgarh — Madhya Pradesh
One of India's highest tiger density reserves. Ancient hilltop fort, rock-cut Vishnu carvings deep in the jungle, tigers often seen in open meadow zones. Fewer visitors than Ranthambore. Also home to leopard, wild dog (dhole), sloth bear, and 250+ bird species.
Kanha — Madhya Pradesh
The park that inspired Kipling's The Jungle Book — vast meadow sal forest corridors, wild barasingha (swamp deer) breeding programme, gaur herds and resident tiger families. A 3-day stay gives the unhurried pace wildlife photography demands.
Pench — Madhya Pradesh / Maharashtra
Quiet, less-visited reserve straddling two states. Dense teak and bamboo forest. Active leopard and wild dog population alongside tigers. A good partner to Kanha or Bandhavgarh for a 6–8 night central India wildlife circuit.
Kaziranga — Assam, Northeast India
Home to two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinoceros population. Also elephant, wild buffalo, swamp deer, and tigers. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Best combined with a tea garden homestay in Assam — a completely different India from the north.

India's oldest national park, established 1936. Ramganga river valley habitat — active tiger and elephant movement alongside crocodile. Also one of India's best birdwatching parks with 600+ species. Ideal as a 2-night addition to a Golden Triangle trip.

How to plan an India tiger safari
Is a tiger sighting guaranteed?
No. Tiger sightings are wildlife encounters in large forest reserves — not zoo visits. We book the best-positioned zones and timing, but sighting conditions are outside anyone's control. This is honest safari planning.
How many days per reserve?
Allow 2–3 nights per reserve for meaningful wildlife time (4–6 drives). One reserve: 4 nights minimum. Combining two reserves: 7–8 nights. One-night safari stops are rushed and rarely rewarding.
Which reserve is right for me?
Ranthambore (Rajasthan) is most accessible from Delhi. Bandhavgarh (Madhya Pradesh) has high tiger density in a compact forest. Kanha (MP) has wider landscapes and diverse birdlife. Pench (MP/Maharashtra) is quieter and less pressured.
How do safari drives work?
Two drives per day — dawn (6am) and dusk (3pm). Each is 3–4 hours in an open jeep with a Forest Department naturalist and a government-licensed forest guide. Zones are allocated by the reserve; we request the strongest zones.
How does it combine with other India routes?
Ranthambore fits naturally into a Golden Triangle circuit (5 nights Delhi/Agra/Jaipur + 3 nights Ranthambore). Bandhavgarh and Kanha combine well with Varanasi and Khajuraho. Pench connects to South India via Nagpur.
What should I wear and bring?
Neutral, muted colours (khaki, olive, grey). Layers for dawn drives — reserves are cold before sunrise, hot by 10am in season. A quality telephoto lens matters more than zoom on a phone. Binoculars are useful for birds and distant sightings.

Overnight train to central India or connecting flight via Bhopal/Nagpur. Arrive Kanha region. Check-in at forest lodge.

Kanha
Four Kanha jeep safaris across meadow and sal forest zones. Barasingha herd, gaur, wild dog, tiger families with cubs. Optional village walk at dusk.
Day 8
Departure
Return to Delhi or extend to Bandhavgarh, Pench or Kaziranga. Post-safari city extension to Varanasi, Agra or Jaipur available.

How to combine a tiger safari with the Golden Triangle
Ranthambore is the easiest entry point. It sits between Jaipur and Agra, so you can slot 2 safari nights (4 jeep safaris) into a Golden Triangle circuit without any significant detour. The routing runs Delhi → Agra → Ranthambore → Jaipur (or reversed), keeping all travel logical.
For 4+ safari days, go to central India. Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Pench offer a deeper wildlife experience than a brief Ranthambore stop. The trade-off is a flight or overnight train from north India — worth it for serious wildlife photography or a dedicated safari focus.
Logistics from Delhi/Agra/Jaipur to reserves: Ranthambore is 4–5 hours by road or 2 hours by train from Jaipur. Bandhavgarh and Kanha are best reached via a 1.5-hour domestic flight to Jabalpur or Nagpur. We handle all transfers and lodge connections as part of the programme.
Families and first-time safari visitors: Ranthambore is the right choice — open terrain, accessible lodges, strong naturalist culture, and UNESCO-listed fort ruins in the reserve that give non-wildlife days a purpose. It is suitable for travellers of all ages and fitness levels.
Photography note: Early morning safaris at first light offer the best conditions — low sun, animal activity near water, clear air. All our jeep bookings are private so you stop when the guide stops, not when a mixed group votes.
