Practical tips from your guide

  • 💡Periyar boat safari with children: the 9:30 am eco-walk (walking, not boat) gives a better chance of close elephant encounters
  • 💡Munnar tea museum is child-friendly and includes a working tea-tasting room — allow 90 minutes
  • 💡Houseboat for families: request a boat with lifejackets verified for children under 12 — we check this at booking
  • 💡Kochi's Kerala Folklore Museum is genuinely engaging for children aged 8+ — 3 floors of costumes and art
  • 💡Pack insect repellent wristbands for children — the backwaters at dusk can be mosquito-heavy

Kerala family trip mein Thekkady elephant safari highlight rahi

Bacchon ke liye Thekkady ka elephant darshan life-changing experience tha. Naturalist guide ne elephant behaviour ke baare mein itna sikhaaya ki bachon ne vapas aake school mein presentation bhi di! Kochi mein Jew Town aur backwaters cruise dono family ke liye great raha.

Response from Globalduniya

Asha aur Pradeep, bachon ne school mein presentation di — yahi toh educational travel ka sabse bada reward hai! Thekkady ka naturalist guide aur Jew Town ka history — dono ne seekhne ka mauka diya. Shukriya!

Kerala with teenagers — they were genuinely enthusiastic throughout

Travelling with teenagers requires attractions that hold their interest without being "educational" in a self-conscious way. Kerala delivered for our 14 and 16-year-old — the Thekkady elephant safari, the houseboat experience and the Kochi kayak tour in the evening all kept them fully engaged.

Response from Globalduniya

Teenagers genuinely engaged throughout Kerala — we hear this so often and it reflects Kerala's natural variety rather than any manufactured activity. Helen and Patrick, thank you for sharing this.

Kumarakom houseboat for families — completely peaceful

We had two young children (5 and 8) and were slightly worried about the houseboat safety. The captain took care of everything and the children were fascinated by the canal life — the fishing boats, the water buffalo wading, the kingfishers. A wholly gentle and beautiful experience for families.

Response from Globalduniya

The canal life on the Kumarakom waterways — buffalo, kingfishers, fishing boats — is one of those naturally child-captivating experiences that needs no embellishment. David and Louise, so glad the family adventure worked out perfectly. Thank you.

About India

▾

Region: Kerala, India.

Best time to visit: September, October, November, December, January, February, March.

December to February is best for families — stable weather, full access to all attractions, and cooler temperatures that children find more comfortable than the tropical heat of March–May.

Questions about this package

Kerala Family Escape works best for children aged 5 and above. The houseboat, Periyar wildlife boat safari, and Munnar tea estates are all engaging for children 5+. Children under 3 require extra supervision on the houseboat (open water access at deck level). We recommend requesting the toddler safety gate add-on.

Yes. All properties on this circuit are accustomed to Indian families and offer full vegetarian and children's menus. South Indian breakfast (idli, dosa, upma) is available everywhere. We can also arrange packed lunch boxes (paratha, dry curry, fruit) for the Munnar and Periyar excursion days.

Yes. We use only the Periyar Tiger Reserve boat safari and the Guruvayur elephant sanctuary — both are government regulated. We do not offer elephant rides or any contact activity that requires training chains. Your coordinator can explain our wildlife ethics policy in detail before the visit.
