Practical tips from your guide
- 💡Acclimatise for a full 48 hours in Leh before any excursion above 3500 m — altitude sickness affects fit people too, regardless of age
- 💡Drink 3–4 litres of water daily in Ladakh; the dry high-altitude air causes rapid dehydration you may not notice until symptoms arrive
- 💡The Pangong Lake road (Chang La pass, 5360 m) requires an Inner Line Permit — we arrange this in advance; do not attempt without it
- 💡Lamayuru Monastery is the most dramatically sited in Ladakh — if your itinerary includes it, arrive before 9 am to avoid tour groups
- 💡Keep electronics and camera batteries warm overnight — cold drains lithium batteries very quickly above 3000 m

Altitude, stars and silence — Ladakh is unlike anywhere else
At 3,500 metres in Leh, the sky at night is so clear and the air so free of light pollution that the Milky Way is clearly visible from the rooftop of our guesthouse. Our guide arranged a midnight walk to a high point above the town — the entire Ladakh range silent under stars in the windless cold. That hour was worth the long journey to reach Ladakh. The monasteries by day, the star-gazing by night, and Pangong Tso's colours at dawn made this a journey of pure beauty. Globalduniya handled the logistics of a complex region with complete efficiency.
Response from Globalduniya · Rohan Verma · India Operations Director
Marie, the midnight rooftop star-gazing in Leh is something our guide specifically offers guests who ask for it — the darkness and altitude at 3,500 m produce a sky that most travellers from European cities have never experienced. We are so glad this added to an already extraordinary journey. Merci.

Ladakh's Buddhist monasteries are among Asia's great wonders
We went to Ladakh for the landscape and were equally astonished by the Buddhist heritage. Hemis Monastery's thangka collection is remarkable. Thiksey's location — a whitewashed complex ascending a hill above the Indus Valley — is one of the great monastery settings in the Himalayas. Our guide Stanzin, a Ladakhi Buddhist himself, brought genuine depth of personal faith to his explanations. The Nubra Valley camelback ride on the double-humped Bactrian camels at sunset, with the sand dunes of a high-altitude desert in the foreground, was wonderfully surreal.
Response from Globalduniya · Rohan Verma · India Operations Director
Thomas and Elena, Stanzin's personal Buddhist practice gives his guiding at Hemis and Thiksey an authenticity that is simply not available from an outside interpreter. The Nubra Valley dunes at sunset with the Bactrian camels is one of Ladakh's most improbable and beautiful scenes. Thank you.

Great adventure, but Pangong could be better
Globalduniya’s tour was well-planned, showcasing Leh’s charm and Nubra Valley’s unique experiences. Khardung La pass gave me unforgettable memories. Pangong Tso lake was stunning, however, the campsite felt too crowded and lacked basic amenities. Overall, the picturesque landscapes and nature’s beauty made this trip special for me.
Response from Globalduniya · Arjun Bose · Domestic Operations Manager
Thank you, Manisha! We’re glad you enjoyed Ladakh. We’ve noted your campsite feedback and will strive for improvement.

The highest motorable roads in the world — and worth every metre
The drive over Khardung La (5,359 m) — listed as one of the world's highest motorable passes — in an open jeep with prayer flags streaming in the wind and the entire Ladakh range visible, is not something you prepare for emotionally however much you read about it. The scale of the mountains and the thinness of the air at that altitude is humbling. Globalduniya's altitude management advice — two nights in Leh before any high-altitude driving, proper hydration, the right medication — was practical and correct. We had no altitude sickness. The monastery visits added cultural depth. A remarkable experience.
Response from Globalduniya · Rohan Verma · India Operations Director
Paul and Katherine, Khardung La on a clear day is one of those views that recalibrates your sense of scale — the Karakoram on one side and the Himalaya on the other simultaneously. The altitude protocol is something we update every season based on guest experience and medical guidance. Thank you.

Pangong Lake — the most beautiful lake on earth, bar none
We have visited Patagonia, the Norwegian fjords and the Scottish Highlands. Pangong Tso at dawn — the improbable blue-green water at 4,350 metres altitude, rimmed by bare ochre mountains and perfectly still in the pre-sunrise calm — is the most beautiful landscape we have encountered in twenty-five years of serious travel. Our driver brought us to the lake at 4:30 am and we sat in silence for an hour. Leh's monasteries — Hemis, Thiksey, Likir — are extraordinary. The altitude medication Globalduniya provided and the two-day acclimatisation was well managed. A trip that takes physical preparation but delivers proportionally.
Response from Globalduniya · Rohan Verma · India Operations Director
Oliver and Jessica, Pangong at 4:30 am before the tourist vehicles arrive is an experience we specifically protect for our guests — it requires leaving Leh at 3 am but the result is exactly what you describe. The altitude programme is something we refine every season based on guest feedback. Thank you.

Memorable Ladakhi escape
This trip was perfect for nature lovers! Camping at Pangong Tso lake was peaceful, and Leh’s streets felt enchanting. Khardung La pass was definitely an adventure worth bragging about. Nubra Valley’s activities, from camel rides to exploring the dunes, made me want to stay longer. Accommodation was great but food had limited options for vegetarians.
Response from Globalduniya · Arjun Bose · Domestic Operations Manager
Thank you, Priya! We’re happy you enjoyed Ladakh’s magic. We’ll work on improving meal options for vegetarian travelers.

Ladakh operates in a short summer season and requires advance planning — our team manages all permits, acclimatisation days, and logistics. Spectacularly beautiful and genuinely remote.

June to September is the only reliable window for Ladakh. July–August offers the warmest temperatures and all high passes are open. May and late September are possible but some routes may be closed.
Questions about this package
The itinerary reaches 5,360 m at Pangong Lake (via Chang La pass, the third-highest motorable pass in the world). Khardung La (5,359 m), often cited as the world's highest motorable pass, is included if your itinerary covers the Nubra Valley route. Mandatory acclimatisation at Leh (3,524 m) for 48 hours is built into the schedule before any high-pass excursion.
Indian nationals require no permit for the main Leh circuit. Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, and Dah-Hanu require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) — obtainable online or at Leh DC Office in 1–2 hours. Foreign nationals require an ILP for Pangong and Nubra, and a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for some outer zones. We arrange all permits before your excursion days.
A Ladakh motorcycle extension (Royal Enfield, 5–7 days from Manali to Leh via Rohtang and Tanglang La) is available as an alternative to the standard itinerary for experienced riders. This is a separate product with a dedicated riding guide and vehicle support truck. The scenic vehicle-based Ladakh itinerary is also available for non-riders who want the same landscapes with more comfort.
