Practical tips from your guide
- 💡Munnar tea estate walk: ask your guide for the workers' route between the rows — it takes you off the tourist path entirely
- 💡Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary boat safari: book the 7:30 am departure for elephants at the water edge
- 💡Alleppey houseboat: the narrow village canals east of the main tourist backwater have almost no other boats — request these
- 💡Varkala cliff path restaurants serve the same menu at half the price of cliff-front spots — walk 100m back from the edge
- 💡Kerala trains are an experience — the Mathrubhumi Express from Ernakulam to Alleppey costs ₹30 and takes 1.5 hours

Kerala mein 5 din bahut zyada lagte hain par waqt bohot jaldi guzarta hai
Thekkady mein spice plantation tour, Munnar mein tea garden walk aur Alleppey mein houseboat pe raat — teen experiences jo ek doosre se bilkul alag hain. Kerala ki green khubsoorti ne poori family ko aisa feel karaya jaise hum paintings mein ghoom rahe hain.

About India
▾
Region: Kerala, India.
September to March is ideal. Monsoon (June–August) floods the lower backwater channels but turns the hills luminously green — experienced travellers love the monsoon season in Kerala.
Questions about this package
Different emphasis. Kerala Hills and Backwaters includes the tea hill stations (Munnar) and a wildlife sanctuary (Periyar) — more active and destination-varied. Kerala Wellness Backwaters focuses on the Ayurvedic treatment experience and slower houseboat time. If you want hills + wildlife + backwaters, choose this package. If you want wellness + deeper backwater time, choose the other.
Periyar is most famous for wild Asian elephants — seen at the lake edge on the boat safari most mornings. Sambar deer, Malabar giant squirrel, Nilgiri tahr (mountain goat), and over 320 bird species are regularly sighted. Tigers are present but rarely seen; the elephant herds are the defining wildlife experience.
Kovalam Beach (Thiruvananthapuram) is included as a 1-night stay at the end of the itinerary, providing a beach finale to the hills-and-backwaters circuit. Varkala can be substituted for Kovalam on request — it is slightly further but more atmospheric for most travellers.
Frequently asked questions
We recommend booking at least 3–4 months in advance for peak season travel (October–March). For off-peak travel, 6–8 weeks is generally sufficient. Bespoke itineraries need a minimum 8 weeks for full confirmation.
